Online Cube Solver — Free 3x3 Rubik's Cube Solver
Online Cube Solver is a free, browser-based tool for solving the standard 3×3 Rubik's Cube. Paint
your scramble on a live 3D model, get a near-optimal move sequence, and follow every turn with
animated step-by-step playback — no app download or account required.
How It Works
Enter your cube by painting each of the 54 stickers on the on-screen 3D model to match your
physical cube. The app validates your coloring — checking that piece counts, corner orientations,
and edge parities are all physically possible — and then runs the Kociemba two-phase algorithm
inside a Web Worker to produce a solution in under a second.
Solutions are near-optimal, typically under 22 moves. The theoretical minimum for any valid 3x3
cube state is 20 moves — known as God's number, proven in 2010.
Learn to Solve a 3x3 Rubik's Cube
The site includes a complete beginner guide using the
layer-by-layer (LBL) method. The guide covers all seven stages — white cross, white corners,
middle layer edges, yellow cross, orienting corners, permuting corners, and permuting edges —
with every algorithm printed out and explained step by step.
Rubik's Cube Notation
The notation guide explains every letter and symbol used in
cube algorithms: face turns (R, U, F, D, B, L), prime/counter-clockwise moves (R′), double turns
(R2), wide moves, slice moves (M, E, S), and cube rotations (x, y, z).
Algorithm Reference
The algorithm reference covers the complete beginner LBL set,
key F2L pairs, common OLL algorithms including Sune, Anti-Sune, T-OLL, H-OLL, and Pi-OLL, and
essential PLL algorithms including U-perms, T-perm, J-perm, H-perm, and A-perm.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the solver free? Yes — fully free, no account needed.
- Does it work offline? Solving runs in your browser; once the page loads, no internet connection is needed to solve.
- What cube sizes are supported? Currently the standard 3×3 only.
- Can I share my cube state? Yes — after solving, copy a share link that encodes your scramble.
- Why is my cube invalid? Each color must appear exactly 9 times; corners and edges must be in physically reachable states.
